Lately it seems like I've lost a little bit of myself. The part of me which loves to do things and create things is missing. I blame work. I blame traffic. I blame life for getting in the way of things I used to do, way back when before responsibilities, work, and bills! It seems like the majority of my time lately is spent complaining of this and that, being unsatisfied with doing nothing, and being stressed in general. I am NOT taking the time to stop and smell the roses during the week like I need to!
So, I'm trying slowly to make little changes. Purposeful changes. Let me say that they are not easy! I'm trying to continue to spend at least part of the weekends outdoors. I'm making some major adjustments to my diet. I'm trying to complain less. I'm attempting to get to work earlier in the day. I'm continuing to try to see the bright side of things. I'm going to try to leave work things at work.
This past weekend, Momma and I spent a little bit of time away from the house. As anyone who knows us well, we thrive on books. Reading is a major pastime. Or at least, it was. We've both forgotten how nice it is to simply become lost in a book. Between easy-access internet and the self-taping DVR cable tv, we're finding more and more time is spent in front of a screen. I don't know about anyone else, but when I sit and think about how many hours of my week are spent in front of a screen watching tv or some You Tube video, I just want to scream! I miss consistently getting lost in a book, letting my imagination entertain me. Since when did Facebook become my preferred mode of entertainment over books? Yikes!
Momma had this awesome coupon for Borders, and she and I ended up getting some books on Saturday. Not just one or two – between the used book store (I traded in some books and got credit!) and the regular book store, we are now the proud owners of two new coffee table picture books, a handful of reading books, and my most favorite – a gluten-free cookbook! I've already started one of my new books, and am actually looking forward to my four evenings/nights of hotel room coming up next week – book time for me.
While grocery shopping on Sunday, we stopped at a bead store to 'just browse' and got enthralled with the wire jewelry showcased, wondering how it was all made. Low and behold, the store has classes! So on a whim, Momma and I decided to sign up for a ring making class. Turns out the classes were Monday night, so that was really cool – almost instant gratification. I thought making the rings was fun and my little creative juices were just oozing all over the place. All of a sudden I remembered what it was like to be crafty, and I think I've been bitten by the craft bug again. Ut-oh. However, it is incentive to get the downstairs worked on to gain craft space.
