I was in Georgia last week for work. It was all together an alright trip, however, my line of bad luck (which I now just accept is normal for field work), continued. Due to obscene amounts of rain in Georgia the last few weeks and rain during the time I was there, my airline flights were problematic at best. I thought it was bad when we left home a few hours past the flight time... Um, no, that was just fine and dandy compared to the return flight. The return flight was delayed, then canceled and switched to a different airline – which was then subsequently delayed some more. So I spent the better part of 10 hours in the airport on the return trip. So much for getting to the airport early to try to catch an earlier flight. At least my luggage wasn't lost!

It's alright though – I had a computer, a phone, and a good book; however, I was a little perturbed that there wasn't free wifi available at either airport. Boo. I ended up spending the time playing solitaire, watching part of a movie, watching the news coverage of bubble-boy (which is now deemed a hoax), reading my book, and reading my National Geographic mag. And sitting bored out of my mind. Thank goodness for a phone with texting capabilities!
My baby computer on the plane...
But even with the rain, we were able to get the field work done quite quickly and the sampling went smooth! At one of the locations, I found what I know as a 'fairy ring'. There are instances where mushrooms grow in a circle and it's called a fairy ring. I've been wanting to find one, but hadn't – but I did at the site! Whoo-hoo.
Flowers – a few of the last stragglers of late summer.
Another mushroom - there were so many of them in the woods... Guess it's from all the rain!
A pretty picture of the forest. It's a different type of climate in GA, so the trees are quite different than the ones here in Virginia!
There was a beautiful oak tree by one of the sites I was sampling at, I couldn't resist snapping a picture of it as well.
