Mother's Day

Momma and I took a break from the house for Mother's Day. We both needed a “Mommy and Me” day. Last year, before the house and before me having a bf, we spent many weekends traveling around, driving back roads and visiting the little towns west of where we live. However, we don’t do this nearly enough any more. I certainly know I dearly miss spending that sort of time with her. While we do live together, there is a vast difference between cohabiting and actually spending purposeful time with each other beyond the nightly dinner and tv moments.

We started the day out by heading out to the barn to say good morning to the Sniper-dude. No trip past the barn is complete without the obligatory stop! We then decided we'd drive out towards Graves Mountain; an oftentimes destination for the scenery, tranquility, and just because it's so nice. At Graves, we drove up the road a ways and got out of the car to take in the scenery around the Rose River. We climbed down to the river to check it out, taking in the neat purple-flowered tree (Paulownia) on the way. It's a beautiful little river with wonderfully clear water.

After we got our fill on the Rose River scenery, we got back in the truck and continued our travels. After a while, it seemed we were in the vicinity of one of the better wineries in the area, and on a whim, we decided to stop. I am proud to admit that I had my very first official wine tasting! And me, the wine-hater, even found one or two wines that I thought were tasty. After a nice wine tasting, Mom and I splurged on some bottles of wine. We stayed on the grounds for a little bit after the tasting because the day was so nice. We checked out the pond and discovered these HUGE coy fish who were hanging out in the shallows.

All in all, Mother’s Day was wonderful – a beautiful day spent with my most favorite Mommy! Thank you, Momma!
