So much for two months...

I have asthma. It’s a fairly new thing that I think I am finally coming to terms with. In a few months, it will be two years since my diagnosis, and three and a half years since I started having mysterious symptoms. When a person wasn’t even 30, and wasn’t really *that* out of shape, is huffing and puffing after going up one flight of steps and coughing at every little fume (hello Windex!), then you know something isn’t quite right. Of course, acing every test the doctors throw your way doesn’t help much in the diagnosis process. The diagnosis was more a process of elimination in my case. When things started to get better with the addition of an inhaler, then everyone was pretty confident asthma was the culprit.

Just last week, I was exclaiming to Mom, Jim, my riding instructor, and everyone else who’d listen, that “my asthma is finally under control!!” The past year had me trying different medicine combinations of asthma and allergy meds. I told the doctors that I wanted the least amount of medicine to control and prevent symptoms, within reason, and to lay low with the steriods - why doctors want to immediately throw people on steroids baffles me. With my little magic pills, I hit, for the first time since my diagnosis, a two month mark without having one asthma attack. Yay! AND I’ve even hiked during that time! (To be fair and honest, I do use my inhaler before my riding lessons every week as a precaution.)

But, it’s spring. And the pollen is high. And I was outside most of yesterday. And my green truck had an odd yellow granular coating on it this morning. And it’s humid inside the office.

…so much for two months.  Damn tight chest.

:)
