Days gone by...

I’m sorry.  It’s been a while.  Life has been busy.  This last year was spent visiting family and friends, working on the house, playing with the pony, working in the yard…  Jim and I made efforts to continue doing all the things we did prior to being homeowners, but man! that mortgage payment every month isn’t the only all-consuming thing.  We’re entirely loving our house, however.  No complaints.  Well, no major complaints.  So here’s a quick catch-up.
Last summer we went to West Virginia to go camping and ATVing with some friends.  Had a BLAST.  Would love to do it again, too.  Had a beautiful spot by a really pretty stream, campfires, mudding with ATVs, sleeping in tents, cooking over the fire, target shooting.

our ride on the trails - super fun!
Then, on the way home, my poor little Liberty lost a gear in the transmission.  We were able to limp home after an emergency WallyWorld trip to get some transmission fluid, but it was evident that we really needed to put the new (used) car buying search into high gear.  Got my new (used) cross-over SUV in August.  I LOVE it.  I hardly miss my Liberty.

Then at the beginning of fall, Mom and I went to Pittsburgh to see the big Rubber Duck floating in the Allegheny River.
We saw where Granny lived as a young adult, visited the grave of my great-grandparents (Mom’s grandparents), and had a great trip.  This was during the government shutdown, however, so we were quite irritated to have had the chance to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial and not be able to drive in.  We (cough, cough) trespassed with several other visitors anyways and walked a fair ways into the memorial, but sadly didn’t spend nearly enough time there.  We were able to pay our respects, however.
Upon coming back from our trip, I started feeling a little…different.  After about a week of a ‘tummy bug’ that wouldn’t go away, I found out it WAS a tummy bug of an entirely different sort.  Surprise!  I apparently follow in my family’s fertile Myrtle tendencies.
Then came doctor’s appointments, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Jim’s 35th birthday, more doctor’s appointments…  I threw my first ever party for Jim’s birthday.  It was a lot of work (and I’m so glad to have had the help from my awesome Mom), but I nailed it and everyone seemed to have a good time.  It was kinda funny in that it was supposed to be a surprise party, but Jim ended up scheduling a shooting weekend with his boss, out of town, so I had to spill the beans because my diversions weren’t working.  He ended up going for the shooting weekend several weekends later (and had a great time).
We had the winter that never quit.  It literally seemed like we had a snow storm every week or two with bitterly cold temperatures.  I slept quite a bit through this winter.  Growing a baby is exhausting!  I tried to ride Sniper as long as possible, but only made it to about 4 months before I had to stop.  It wasn’t that huge of a loss, however, because the weather was so crummy.  I do miss seeing his big brown eyes, though.
Jim ripped out all the drywall in our basement this winter.  It started with an intent to just remove the paneling from the drywall to see how easy (or hard) it was going to be to repair the drywall from pulling the paneling off.  Then we could repair the walls, and paint, and see what we could do with the extra space (home office!, play area!).  Instead, we found a LOT more mold than we thought was down there.  In part because of the bun-in-the-oven and my asthma, Jim went on a mission to rip.out.everything.  And he did.  And I have to say, our house has lost that musty odor that was annoying the heck out of me all the time.  Of course, now the home office resides in the guest room.  And we’ve got plenty of time to figure out a play area (right?).  The honey-do list is ginormous.  We’ve finally got the baby’s room ready for painting, but that’s where that stands.
The current project is a complete overhaul of the main bathroom (which started today).
I’m so glad it’s finally spring, though.  Of course, we all know that spring will only last about two weeks before summer comes, but the temperatures are wonderful and everything is starting to bloom (achoo!).
So in a nutshell, everything goes.  J
