There’s not much to say on the Sniper-front lately. Between not feeling swell myself, the heat (and now the chilly), and at first the 'house-hunting blues', which are now the homeowner 'have-no-times', I haven’t been spending hardly any time at the barn this summer and fall. Not that I think Sniper cares too terribly much.
He’s been good. It is really nice to have a horse that I can ride, then not ride for several weeks, and then get on and pick up where we left off. It sounds simple enough, but believe me, it’s a total blessing. He (for all his naughty-boy antics) is really a gem and I really lucked out in the personality category of horse roulette.
He spent the summer in a ‘starvation field’ – i.e., not much rich grass for his usual fat self. And this year is the first time in several years that I can actually consider him svelte (well, svelte for him). He’s definitely NOT conditioned (there’s not a whole lot of muscle mass going on from the lack of riding), but you can feel his ribs (yay!) and see his backbone (while not really a yay because it also means there’s no muscle, so it’s a kinda-yay). There’s still fat, of course - he is not by any means starving, but this is really the best he’s looked in a long while.
(The other pretty pony is Rugby, one of his herd-mates.)
