Jim and I went to the State Fair two weekends ago and Jim’s mom, Anne, came with us. We had planned on going for many weeks, organizing our schedule around when we were able to go. The weather was pretty stinky, though, with scattered rain showers, cloudy, overcast skies, and cold temperatures (brrr!) completely out of character for this very first October weekend.
But, we made the best of the day and still got to see a lot of cool things. We did decide to not partake in any of the fair rides - have you seen how expensive the tickets are these days and that each ride costs like three tickets?! It was as much fun walking around looking at the exhibits and things like that.
Most of our time admittedly was spent in the agriculture part of the fair grounds. We walked through the goat barns, the chicken tent (by my request), and the farm tent which was complete with adorable piglets and a long-horned cow and her three month old baby.

The piglets were adorable, all spotty and snuggly. They were sleeping when we first walked by, but the one of them decided that he was hungry and the others followed suit. I tried to get a non-blurry picture, but the light was bad and they were simply moving too fast for me.
We got to see a zedonk - she was pretty neat looking. She is a cross between a zebra and a donkey. Look at her stripes!
The goats were pretty intense. We really only walked around in the dairy goat barn where there were several varieties of milk goats on display. Some of them were really cute, and others were kinda scary looking and didn’t have ears. I think if I ever have a place to have a goat or two, then I may want one of the cute ones! Minus the milking part, I think.
We also saw a chainsaw exhibition (by Jim’s request) where a guy took a block of wood and carved a shape out of it. It actually was pretty awesome to see the progress and see the different saws the guy used. We watched him for about a half hour and went back later to see the finished product.
My favorite part of the entire fair was seeing the alpacas. This apparently was alpaca weekend and there were so.many.of.them there. They are cute! I want one!
And they now may be my newest-most-favoritist animal of all! :)
