Here we go round the Mulberry Bush…
Have you ever seen something that looks like a blackberry, but find out that it’s not covered in thorns and (wait for it!) seems to be growing on a tree?!
I was introduced to a berry-tree a few weeks ago by Jim’s Mom. She said every time she walked the dog at this time of the year, they would purposely walk by a plant which had blackberry-like fruit on it – which she loved and would eat a handful. I wasn’t sure the name of the plant – I knew there were lots of similar fruit to blackberries around the country.
Imagine my surprise when I saw it really was a tree. I filed away the information in my brain and kinda just forgot about it for a bit.
When I visited my Poppa at his house this past weekend, we were walking around the yard and I noticed some berries on the ground and was excited he had a blackberry bush on the property. However, when I looked for the bush all I saw was a tree!
To the internet I went and figured out it was a Mulberry Tree! (And yes, the fruit is edible and tasty.)
Guess I really do learn something new every day...
