Snow Snow Snow

I'm a little behind the ball on posts, and before it snows again, I'd better post about the first big snow!

So everyone knows that I lived in Montana for quite a while. Now, when people think of Montana, they generally think about things like wild west, cowboys, trucks, mountains, and snow. Would any of you believe that the entire time I lived there I didn't see more than 8-10 inches of snow at once? Even then, that was rare. I will admit, however, I've SEEN more snow than that, but it was always on the ski slopes, so I do not really think that counts. I can still remember getting stuck in a hip-deep snow bank once while snowboarding...

So who would have thought that the most snow I've seen has consistently been here in Northern Virginia? We mustn't forget the Blizzard of '96. This was during the first few months we had Buford (our beloved fat-dog). I can remember making trails in the yard for him to move around – you could only see his tail moving about. The entire month I barely went to school because of snow. I guess there were some pretty good storms during the early 2000's, but I was in drought-ridden Montana at that time, so they were not experienced by me.

Fast forward some time to the Blizzard of '09. We got something like 22 inches in less than two days. And man, was it beautiful powder. I would have loved to have been on a ski slope with my board; but alas, I'm not in Montana anymore!

Momma, Jim, and I played snow-remover people. Uncle Al let Jim
play with their snow-thrower, too.

The next day, Momma and I made the exodus to the barn to check out how Snipes was faring. Here we go down the road in four-wheel drive in my Jeep Liberty!
Momma took this picture of a creek.
The barn owner hadn't plowed the entire driveway yet, so we parked at the end of the drive and hiked up to see the pony. Snipes seemed a little concerned about the snow until he realized that yes, you could move around in it. I pulled him out of his pasture to get in a quick ride. And such a little turd he was -he ended up playing with me and was having a blast being naughty. I finally succeeded, however, and had an amazing 10 minute bareback ride in the snow with him. Yes, that is a horse blanket you see on him - he's totally spoiled!
At the barn.
Trying in vain to get on Snipes.
Finally!
So here I am, getting ready to hunker down for our second big storm when we've had snow already twice since the last big storm. They're calling for upwards of 22 inches again – guess I'll know for sure by Saturday!
